A friend in the Archdiocese recommended Extreme Ownership to me, which I read last Christmas Break. My big takeaway is one of the many solid ideas in the book: no one is actively sabotaging you. Essentially, we need to step outside of ourselves and recognize positive intent.
This is where parents come in! As a colleague said – it’s lots of little things and that’s lucky because it’s better than lots of big things. You can still die from a million paper cuts though. What can be most frustrating about being the principal is that sense of the buck stopping here. If anyone wants to feel heard, they come to me. It can be overwhelming and sometimes important things get lost in the shuffle.
It’s at times like that that it pays to recenter, refocus, and pray. No one is trying to hurt the school or the kids, they just want what is best.
