Eric Curts published an awesome post on creating Graphic Novels with Gemini and Notebook LM. Highlights:

As easy as graphic novels are to consume, creating them is a much more challenging task. Certainly the best graphic novels are going to be created by skilled and hard-working authors and illustrators, and I strongly encourage everyone to support them in this work.

However with new AI tools, educators and students now have free options to enter into this world and create basic, but good, graphic novels of their own. This is something I have been working on recently with Gemini and NotebookLM, and I am excited to share with you both the results that I have made and the tools and directions for you to do the same.

He then lists 25 examples, details about each, and then dives into the workflow, sharing a gem he made to help create the script and a template if you want it not to-be AI generated.

Next, take the script, revise and edit; then import into a Notebook. After importation, Curts outlines the key steps to use the “slide creation” feature in “Studio” to make your downloadable-pdf novel:

When you are ready, here’s what you do:

• In the “Studio” panel of NotebookLM, click the pencil icon for the “Slide Deck” tool.
• This will open the window titled “Customize Slide Deck“.
• For the “Format” leave the selection on “Detailed Deck“.
• For the “Length” leave the selection on “Default“.
• For the box titled “Describe the slide deck you want to create” enter “Retell the story as a graphic novel.” This is critical to get NotebookLM to properly convert your script into the graphic novel format. Optionally to can also include the art style and grade level in this box.
• Note: If you want to have the graphic novel translated into a different language you can select that in the “Choose language” drop-down menu.
• Finally click “Generate“.

After generation, individual PDF issues can be addressed by either generating a new deck or:

• Save the PDF of the graphic novel.
• Use any one of the dozens of PDF tools out there to take the page that needs fixed and export it as an image.
• Upload the image to Gemini and have it use Nano Banana Pro to fix the image based on my directions.
• Use any one of the dozens of PDF tools out there to take the new image and put it in place of that page in the PDF.
