Last year, I shared a tip on automating aspects of newsletter creation (finding local events). Well with the growth of true coworking agents, this is now even easier. I had Claude tackle a family newsletter creation.
First, I prompted with a basic overview of what I was looking for:
Create a static Weekly Family Newspaper Edition from my Gmail and calendar updates for the week ahead on Sundays. Rank what matters most and format it like a newspaper with top stories, action items, and schedule prep. Include weather for locations. Then email this to me on Sunday afternoons at 4pm.
Claude warned me it can’t run it autonomously, but it will generate at demand. It linked with my inbox and calendar, along with weather. Because it wrote it as an API call – it didn’t work at first, but I confirmed the connection but that it wasn’t working. Claude then found its mistake and set it up to fetch the data directly. I then got it to run a second test.
I did have to tweak it a third time in order for it to be an email – but now it can create it as an email (with nice formatting) to send to myself and wife. In examining the content, there were a couple errors – but some of them were from mislabeling in my calendar. Otherwise, Claude still struggles to parse some emails and events but did an admirable job of not missing anything big.
It did minimize my Mother’s Day purchase though:
Kollar Chocolates delivered. Whatever that was for, it’s arrived.
